New Zealand MP Todd McClay visits Asha

Thursday, 2nd May 2013 | Member of New Zealand Parliament, Mr Todd McClay was warmly welcomed by Dr Kiran Martin, founder and director of Asha, the slum residents and Asha Team at Asha’s community centre in Kanak Durga slum colony. He was accompanied by Mr. William Chisholm, Analyst International, New Zealand Government, Mr. Gareth Pidgeon and Ms. Mridu Vats from the High Commission.

Mr. McClay had a lively and productive interaction with the young people studying in University. He also spent time talking to the members of Asha’s women’s group in the slum colony and heard many stories on how the community has been so radically transformed over the years through the work of Asha.

Showing a lot of interest in Asha’s Higher Education and Internship Programme, Mr. McClay was pleased to note the support received from New Zealand High Commission for Asha’s programmes over the past many years. At the end of his visit, he congratulated the slum residents on their achievements and encouraged the college going students to study hard.

Mr. McClay was full of enthusiasm and the slum residents and Asha Team enjoyed his visit immensely. Asha would like to thank the Hon’ble MP for visiting the community and for the support his country has always extended to Asha.
