Asha Inaugurates New Portacabin in Kanak Durga Slum Colony
On 25th March 2013, Asha’s newly installed Portacabin at Kanak Durga slum colony was inaugurated by Mrs. Barkha Singh, Member of Legislative Assemble from R.K. Puram area. The Portacabin came as huge relief for the slum residents after the government pulled down Asha’s center in the slum last year.

The inauguration took place with much cheer and joy as the women and children from the slum thanked Asha and the sponsors for the new structure. The chief guest, Mrs. Barkha Singh congratulated them on the new building and wished Asha success as they continue to serve the slum dwellers.

Last year Asha received a letter from the government for intimating demolition of Asha’s center as the building was in a dilapidated state. After much effort, Asha was able to secure permission to install a portacabin at the site close-by, but faced a shortage of funds to materialize the project. In response to Asha’s appeal for help sent out to our supporters, friends from New Generation Church, Sidcup, UK got together to help us and raised funds to support the entire project.
