On April 13th, Dr Martin delivered the distinguished Greeley Lecture at the Centre for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School at Harvard University. In her lecture, entitled ‘Beyond Distinction, Beyond Difference: Transforming Lives in the slums of Delhi’, she recounted the success Asha has had in reducing poverty through grassroots community development.
Dr Martin emphasised the promotion of peace and justice and inter-faith cooperation as the key to improving the lives and conditions of the urban poor. This approach is in the Indian tradition of transcending religious and cultural boundaries to achieve harmony, she said. The talk was very well received by its audience, made up of distinguished academics from Harvard as well as students from the university.
Asha is very grateful to the support of Professor Francis Clooney and Professor David Hempton from Harvard Divinity School for organising the event.
