We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Asha Sharma, a retired GP from the UK to work with Asha for the entire month of February. During her first week at Asha, she was mostly working at the Asha polyclinic and examining patients along with the doctor there. In the following weeks she travelled to different slums and held clinics at Asha’s slum based healthcare centres and Mobile Healthcare Vans and also observed various Asha programmes being run in the slums across Delhi.
Dr Sharma was greatly impressed with the Asha model and expressed a strong desire to return next year as well. Her suggestions towards the further strengthening of Asha’s healthcare services in the slums were greatly appreciated by the healthcare staff at Asha. “Volunteering for Asha was an altogether wonderful experience. On my return, I will certainly speak to my colleagues about the great work that Asha is doing in the slums across Delhi. I think they will love to volunteer with Asha.” said Dr Sharma while talking about her experience.
Asha is immensely grateful to Dr Asha Sharma for taking out the time from her India trip to work in the slums of Delhi. We hope this is only the beginning of a new relationship and look forward to welcoming her once again next year.
