A delegation of Members of House of Representatives, Japan visited Kanak Durga Slum colony on 27th June, 2014. The group included Mr Ichiro AISAWA, Mr Katsuei HIRASAWA, Mr Hirokazu MATSUNO, Mr Kenta IZUMI, Mr Takashi ISHIZEKI and Ms Yasuko KOMIYAMA.
Accompanied by representatives from the Japanese Embassy, the delegation was welcomed with great warmth by the community members and the Asha team. They had a lively interaction with the children’s group, college students and the women’s group at Asha’s slum based centre there. Sitara, one of the members of the children’s association shared how she learnt about various health issues and the value of education through Bal Mandal meetings.
During their interaction with college students and the women’s group, they were pleased to note the positive changes happening in Delhi slums because of Asha’s work. Diwakar, an Asha student who is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) talked about his 23-year-long journey with Asha. “I am the first from my community to go to college. Having realised the importance of Higher Education, now I encourage others in my community to study’’, he added.
Visits such as these go a long way in strengthening the relationship that Asha has shared with the Japanese Embassy and the country of Japan. Asha looks forward to welcoming them in future again.
