On 18th October 2014, the Australian High Commission hosted a T-20 cricket match for the Asha’s university students. Organised with a view to foster the relationship between the Australian High Commission and Asha, the match also served as a great opportunity for the students to receive training and play in a professional environment.
The teams, comprising both High Commission staff and Asha students playing in together, were captained by Mr Srikant and Mr Ravi from the Australian High Commission. It was a glorious morning and both the teams played extremely well. Srikant’s team scored 100 runs in 16 overs while Ravi’s team, won by 4 wickets. Founder and Director of Asha Society, Dr Kiran applauded both the teams for their wonderful performance in the match.
This was followed by a lunch reception at the Australian High Commission where Ms Genevieve Clune, wife of the Deputy Australian High Commissioner talked highly about the High Commission’s work with Asha and congratulated both the teams on their performance.
Prior to the match, the AHC had also hosted two training sessions giving an opportunity to the Asha boys to train with the High Commission’s cricket team. Australian sports and fitness equipment manufacturer, Spartan Sports also sponsored the teams’ uniform.
Asha would like to thank the Australian High Commission for organising and hosting the match and preceding practice sessions.
