Those who seek success, do not need excuses. This is what our Asha students believe. On the eve of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17, our Asha Ambassadors and Graduates pledged to propagate the idea of education amongst slum communities.
In order to honour the victims of hunger, poverty etc., the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was first observed by 1 lac people in Paris in the year 1987. Later, the United Nations officially announced October 17 as an international observance day for the eradication of poverty.
All the Asha slum communities observed the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. They not merely participated but ran an education drive in their premises. At the centres and shanties, Asha students, staff took sessions to motivate the school going children and the aspiring college students. Asha Graduates and students, who are either interning or employed at Multinational Companies (MNCs), embassies give tuitions to their juniors on a regular basis. Witnessing the value of education, they said that education is the only way that can help them get rid of poverty and hunger.
To mark the day, the Asha students discussed Asha values. Integration of Asha values like Trust, Gratitude, Positive Thinking etc. not only makes them a gentle person but also paves way for their better future ahead.
With the support and guidance from Asha, the slum children are no more dependent on others. With a little push, these children are shining and succeeding.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
