Workshop on Video Journalism held for Asha undergraduate students

On 16th November, a workshop on Video Journalism was conducted at the Asha headquarters by video journalist Surabhi Tandon. This seminar was attended by 14 undergraduate Asha students studying at the Delhi University in various B.A programs who were keen to learn more about Journalism.

Surabhi started the session by talking about the most important elements that define Journalism in a nutshell-Who, What, When, Where, How and Why. Each of these topics was discussed thoroughly and defined in detail, this made the students understand the importance of reporting and writing a story as a journalist. She also talked about the importance of studying Journalism and how it can be beneficial while pursuing a career as a journalist, along with highlighting the names of some institutes in Delhi which offer Diploma and Master courses for TV and Print Journalism.

Surabhi also got her professional equipment along to depict how they operate and what reporters generally use on the field when covering a story. This included her camera attached with a microphone, lavalier mic and portable audio recorder. Most of the students had never seen such professional equipment in person and were excited to view and learn about how they function.

Surabhi also showcased her recent work as well which included a report on Kashmir that she covered for the reputed channel France 24. The students were curious to see a new perspective highlighted. The session ended by Surabhi talking about some major Do’s & Don’ts of Journalism that all should be aware of. This was an interactive seminar in which the students asked many questions and cleared their doubts as well regarding various topics.

‘It was an amazing experience to visit Asha and conduct a seminar on a topic I absolutely enjoy and love. The students were very responsive and open-minded which was wonderful to see. I look forward to visiting again and conduct a seminar on shooting videos and editing’ said Surabhi.

We thank Surabhi for taking the time out and imparting her knowledge along with teaching useful skills to Asha students. We look forward to another eventful seminar in the near future.
