Christian Medical Fellowship team visits Asha
On Monday, 27th August 2018, we were privileged to welcome the team from the Christian Medical Fellowship- the UK led by Ms. Fi McLachlan and included Dr. Peter Saunders, Dr. Jodie-Hannah, Dr. Rachel Owusuankonah, Dr. Matt Baines, Dr. John Greenall and Dr. Daniel Porter. The visitors were oriented to the work of Asha and provided insights on the Asha model of holistic development of slums. In order to know Asha’s Healthcare Programme and functioning of Asha’s Four Tier model of Healthcare with focus on Access and Last mile connectivity to the beneficiary, the team visited the Asha Polyclinic and interacted with the Asha’s team of Doctors.
The visitors were then taken to Kalkaji slum colony to witness and experience life at slums first-hand. Warmly welcomed amidst loud claps and cheers, the visitors had interactive sessions to the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), Mahila Mandal (Women’s Association) and Bal Mandal (Children’s Association) who shared their stories of challenges, hope and triumph as they recounted Asha’s 27 years in the community. The Visitors went to the community to get an idea of the challenges they encounter in their day to day lives. They were impressed to know how the women who never stepped out of their house earlier have now become active participants and change agents in the development of the community.
Team Leader Ms. Fi McLachlan – Head of International Relations said, “I am highly impressed and amazed by the activities. Looking at the empowered women and the way how they have taken control of their destiny inspired me. I want to follow the best practices of the Asha model in my own country too.”
Thank you, team Christian Medical Fellowship for visiting us at Asha. We hope to look forward to more opportunities of welcoming you again.
