Founder’s visit to Asha’s Chanderpuri slum community
“I cannot believe this to be the same place where I had come last time and the slush was gulping the whole slum. The clean lane and the wiped roads are now glorifying the efforts of Asha staff and the Chanderpuri community members,” said Dr Kiran while addressing the gathering at Asha’s Chanderpuri slum community on November 19.
The Women’s Association (Mahila Mandal) members, the Children’s Association (Bal Mandal)) members, Asha College students and Graduates were waiting with bated breath for Dr Kiran to arrive. As soon as the car appeared, all flocked together to receive and welcome her with a garland of flowers. A colourful Rangoli symbolising the love and affection of the community members mesmerized her.
Dr Kiran’s interaction started with the Bal Mandal followed by the Asha students and Mahila Mandal members. “I really appreciate your hard work and efforts towards making this community bright. It is wonderful seeing all of you maintaining a good relationship with all your family members and children. I would always want you to be humble with the other people and your subordinates,” said Dr Kiran. Post an eloquent and motivational speech by Dr Kiran, the Mahila Mandal members also shared their stories with her to which she hailed much.
She was amazed to see the students speaking fluently in English and their proud mothers.
Dr Kiran also went on a visit to the community. She walked along the bylanes across the slum community and met several women and tiny tots at their shanties. She shared smiles with the children on the way. The respect and admiration for Dr Kiran Martin were reflecting from each slum dweller’s face.
The day concluded with lots of happiness and love.
