Team from New York visits Asha Slum Communities
The Asha staff and community at Jeevan Nagar were delighted to welcome Mr John Furste, Ms Sara Furste and Ms Caroline Park from River Church New York, USA during the month of March 2014.
The team spent 10 days working with the children’s group in Jeevan Nagar slum colony. During their stay, they absolutely enthralled the kids by narrating stories, conducting music and dance sessions and playing educational games with them. They also got an opportunity to meet and interact with the staff, Community Health Volunteers, women’s and children’s group members and the students who are now attending college as a result of Asha’s guidance and support. The team enjoyed listening to the community members as they narrated their tales of struggle, hope and success during their journey with Asha.
To gain a deeper insight into the work of Asha in various slum colonies across Delhi, the team also visited Asha communities in Trilokpuri and Savda slum colonies. They were impressed to note how Asha has been able to educate slum dwellers about basic universal values, as well as demanding their rights and taking responsibility for their own welfare.
We are so happy to have the support of such wonderful and giving people and do really look forward to having them return to us in the near future.
