Teams from the UK and Ireland visit Asha

The last month has been very busy at Asha, with four different teams from parts of Ireland and the UK visiting and volunteering with us. From school students to builders to doctors, the teams came from all ages and backgrounds, and did a wide variety of work during their time with us.

We were happy to welcome a team of doctors from South London Healthcare Trust who visited different slums, running clinics and examining patients and prescribing medications and exercise regimes. They were accompanied to Asha by friends from another team from St. Michael’s Church, Blackheath. From Northern Ireland we welcomed a school team from Ballymena Academy to Tigri slum colony, 13 students and 3 teachers. They brightened up the centre and conducted motivational sessions and workshops as did the church team led by Rev David and Gwen Montgomery, made up of members from both Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Finally Asha was glad to see the return of the the Ballymena Builders, a team of builders and engineers from Northern Ireland, accompanied by family and friends. The builders took up the challenging task of renovating our centre at Dr Ambedkar Basti and constructed a new building in just 10 days while family members worked with women and children in Mayapuri. Overall, the contributions of the teams has been invaluable and we are so glad that all those who came also had a wonderful experience that that they will always remember and cherish.

Even before they arrived, the teams worked very hard to organise their trip and fundraise for Asha. To thank them for all their efforts Asha hosted a dinner for all the teams together. The event also served as a great opportunity for the groups to get to know each other and share their experiences. We are so happy to have the support of such wonderful and giving people who come back again and again to help us in our cause. And we do really look forward to having them return to us in the near future.
