Long-time Asha ambassadors from the UK, Dr Dick and Julie Hogben, Nigel and Sue Rees, Steve Baker and Dr Steve Dyer were here with us at Asha. During their two weeks stay, Steve, Nigel, Sue and Julie visited Asha slum colonies and conducted workshops with the high school and college students, while Dr Dick, a General Practitioner and Dr Steve Dyer, a Palliative Care specialist ran clinics at our slum centres.
Dr Dick and Julie have been associated with Asha for the past many years, and have been closely attached to the Asha team and communities. “The most startling improvement that I noticed from last year is that there were very few computers then and most of them were not being used. Today majority of the kids are diligently working on computers and seem to be understanding and enjoying it a lot,” shared Dr Dick.
Nigel and Sue Rees have been supporting Asha programmes for many years. Nigel has played a vital role in conceptualising and documenting the Financial Inclusion programme in 2008. Since then he has been closely associated with the activities of the programme.
A common friend of Dr Dick, Steve Baker and Dr Steve Dyer visited Asha for the first time after having heard about the work from him.
