Right now, in the slums of Delhi, thousands of young children wake up each day hungry, their small bodies deprived of the nourishment needed to grow and thrive.
They do not choose this life—yet it shapes their future before they have even had a chance to begin.
For 36 years, I have walked alongside families in these communities.
I have seen parents do everything in their power to provide, yet still fall short. I have met children whose minds are eager to learn, but whose bodies are too weak from malnutrition. And I have seen the transformation that happens when a child receives the food, care, and support they need—not just survival, but hope, dignity, and the chance for a better future.
That is why I am launching the Early Childhood Nutrition Campaign—a program that will provide nutritious food, health care, and early learning opportunities for the youngest and most vulnerable, particularly girls. But this is about more than food. A child needs to be nourished in every way—to feel love, to be held, to be engaged in the world around them.
This campaign will not only provide meals but also empower parents with the knowledge that simple acts of touch, play, and affection can profoundly shape a child’s future.
What This Program Will Provide:
- Nutritious meals – Healthy food five days a week to support physical growth and development
- Early learning activities – Interactive play and stimulation to strengthen cognitive and emotional growth
- Health services – Regular check-ups, vaccinations, multivitamins, and treatment for malnutrition and illness
For just a small amount, we can provide these life-changing resources to every child under five in one slum for an entire year.
This initiative has the power to transform lives, but only if we take action. I hope to expand it to all Asha centres, reaching thousands of children—but how far we go depends on those who are willing to stand with us.
