Dr Richard Hogben from the UK spends three weeks in slums

While everyone at Asha was busy working for college admissions of students during the last month, we also had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Richard Hogben, a doctor from the UK on 2nd July 2012 to work with Asha for over three weeks in the month of July. Asha is grateful to Dr Hogben for taking out the time from his packed calendar to work in the slums of Delhi.

During the first week here, he was mostly working at the Asha polyclinic and examining patients along with the doctor here. In the following weeks he travelled to different slums and did clinics at Asha’s slum centers and also observed the various programmes being run from each of these. From diagnosis of patients to advices on day to functioning of Asha clinics, his inputs have been of invaluable support to Asha’s healthcare workers.

He also met with the Asha students who are entering university this year at small events at Asha headquarters. The students felt highly encouraged as he urged them to always keep in mind their goals and continue working towards them regardless of any hurdles they may have to cross.

Dr Hogben and his wife Julie have been supporting Asha for many years and have time and again visited us in the past as well. Asha feels humbled to receive the unwavering support from its friends and looks forward to having them here in future as well.
