In the Mayapuri slum, right beside the deafening railway track, lives Mamta—a woman whose life has been marked by storms, yet whose spirit continues to shine.
Married off at just 13, Mamta lost her father soon after, and poverty quickly closed in on her young life. At only 18, she was struck by Tuberculosis. Weak and hopeless, she believed she would never survive. But the Asha team stood by her side through eight long months of painful treatment. They visited her daily, provided medicines, and offered comfort when she was ready to give up. Slowly, Mamta regained her strength and returned to life.

Years later, another storm struck. She discovered a lump and pain in her breast and quietly turned to the Asha clinic. Trained to recognize such warning signs, the Asha nurse practitioners immediately referred her to the hospital. There, Mamta received the devastating news—she had breast cancer.
Once again, Asha became her pillar of strength. The team walked with her through every test, every hospital visit, and every tear. Within weeks, her surgery was completed. Afterward, Asha volunteers and health workers visited her daily, bringing medicines, food, and above all, love. They continued to support her with monthly groceries and nutritional supplements, helping her body recover and her spirit rise.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mamta held their hands one day and whispered through tears:
Without Asha, I would not have survived. You were with me in every moment of my pain, like a true family. Whatever I am today, it is because of your love.
