On June 2, 2023, a team of 11 scholars from NUFFiELD International Farming Scholars, led by Mathew Ipsen, visited Asha. They were warmly received at the headquarters, where they explored a photo exhibition showcasing Asha’s 35-year journey of transforming slum communities in Delhi. The scholars learned about Asha’s healthcare interventions during an epidemic and how their holistic model positively impacted lives and livelihoods by addressing social and economic determinants.
The scholars were fascinated by the significant milestones in Asha’s journey and how the relationship with the communities became an expression of joy, breaking caste, creed, and religious barriers. They toured Asha Polyclinic, where they saw the OPD, Diagnostic Lab, XRay and USG chambers. At Asha’s Kalkaji center, the team welcomed them and engaged with students who shared inspiring stories of educational transformation through different Asha programs, including international Education.
The team visited the IT Lab, interacted with the Bal Mandal kids, explored the library, and had a meaningful dialogue with the Asha Mahila Mandal members. The empowering language and powerful narratives of community development deeply moved the team, leaving an indelible impression on them. The visit concluded with the Love and Lunch program, where the smiles of the elderlies expressed their gratitude and touched the hearts of the visitors.
Overall, the NUFFiELD team ranked their visit to Asha as one of their global tours’ most captivating, memorable, and powerful experiences.
