American Embassy School students visit Kusumpur Pahari slum colony

On 12th March, 2014, a team of 26 students and four teachers from the American Embassy School, New Delhi visited Asha’s community centre in Kusumpur Pahari slum colony.  As a part of their population studies project at the school, the students were interested in learning about the life of the urban poor in Delhi.

Over a two hour session, they interacted with Bal Mandal (children’s association), college and high school Students and Mahila Mandal (women’s association) members. The students were moved to hear the challenges faced by the community as the children and college students from Kusumpur talked about their day to day life. Their discussion on social issues like dowry, equality, gender bias and sanitation and hygiene in the slums with college and high school students was highly engaging.

Asha would like to thank the entire team from the American Embassy School, New Delhi for taking out the time to visit Asha communities each year. We look forward to hosting many more such visits in the future.
