This report comes to you at the end of another exciting year at Asha. We have witnessed some remarkable developments in education and healthcare, and have also had the chance to celebrate these with the slum communities that we work with.
Asha has now enabled over 900 students to access higher education since 2008. This year, we have been able to take the Higher Education Programme further by launching the Asha Student Ambassador Programme. The programme comprises college students and graduates from different slum colonies who work as peer leaders within the community and promote higher education.
The health statistics for this year continue to showcase the wonderful work being done at the grassroots level. 88% of children born in Asha slums were of normal birth weight and 99% of them were breastfed within the first six hours after delivery. The infant mortality rate continues to be 16 this year as well.
