One of the most recent areas where Asha has started working is the new Seelampur slum colony, located on the banks of river Yamuna. Amidst the filth and dirt, the slum is one of the most under developed areas with a large population susceptible to infections and chronic diseases. There are over 400 families residing at this area, who relocate every time the water level of river Yamuna rises. They do not have access to even basic amenities, and live in temporary huts, in unimaginable conditions.
On February 11, 2016, Asha’s Mobile Health Van made its first appearance to this slum colony, with specialist volunteer doctors – Dr Elaine Smith, a rheumatologist and Dr Francis Loughridge, a general practitioner from the UK. Having seen about 40 patients during the day, the doctors observed that the area needs regular medical aid.
