David Briggs with his wonderful team of teachers from the UK
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” – John Holmes
This quote is so apt for our amazing volunteers who come from every corner of the world to spread their goodness in our asha slum communities. what melts the heart is the excitement and smiles they bring on our children’s faces.
We were glad to welcome our long-time Asha supporter, David Briggs and his wonderful 18-member team of teachers from the UK. They volunteered for a week at Asha’s Seelampur centre starting 16th October.
During their stay, the children and youth were fascinated with the various activities conducted by the team, that included art and craft and interesting games with the children. Our job-seeking youngsters had a unique opportunity to improve their resume’s and get an insight on professional etiquettes.
After interacting and visiting the homes of the slum dwellers, the team was humbled and inspired by the lifestyle challenges people living in slums face in their day to day lives and yet manage to wear smiles on their faces. This experience helped the team become grateful for all the luxuries and opportunities they receive in abundance.
It is an absolute pleasure to have this long-standing friendship with such generous people. A big Thank you to David Briggs and the whole team.
Here are a few glimpses of their time at Asha…
