East Meets West Concert

East Meets West Concert

The ‘East Meets West’ concert was organised by Amanda Clegg. It gave the members of the congregation, Asha supporters and many other local people, a real musical treat!

The first half, ‘East’ featured Dr. Kiran singing Lata Mangeshkar classic songs from the 60’s and 70’s. Dr. Kiran sang brilliantly and was ably accompanied by a band of Indian musicians. Considering there was hardly one rehearsal the night before, it was a fantastic performance and the audience loved every bit of the music. Music is said to have no language, as it was seen very evidently during the concert. Irrespective of the language barrier, the audience seemed to enjoy the songs, while some Indians who were clearly familiar with the lyrics, hummed along and tapped their feet.

The second half, ‘West’ featured Jonathan Clegg and Enloc Wu playing classical piano duets, with pieces by Bach, Fauré, Dvořák, Vaughan Williams and William Lovelock. It was a varied programme and a complete contrast to what had come before… which was the whole point!

The audience really appreciated the contrast in styles and cultures represented. Dr. Kiran then shared about Asha and the transformation it has been able to bring about in Indian slum colonies. It was a real eye opener for some and a welcome update for others. Overall the evening was a huge success and helped in raising funds for Asha communities across Delhi.
