From a driver of a rented rickshaw to an entrepreneur

From a driver of a rented rickshaw to an entrepreneur

Ramesh aged 30 years, and a father of four children, has lived in Jeevan Nagar slum community for many years. He used to drive a rented auto and would only earn about Rs150 ($2/ £1.50) per day. When he was ill and could not go to work, his family would go to sleep those nights without food.

About 9 years ago Asha intervened in Ramesh’s life. Asha assisted him in taking out a bank loan of Rs150,000 ($2148 /£1660) to buy a commercial vehicle to carry goods. This new source of income not only brought happiness into Ramesh’s life but also enhanced his confidence to expand his business. In a span of four years, he was not only able to repay the loan but was also able to purchase another commercial vehicle. In early 2019 Ramesh purchased an auto-rickshaw with the money he had been able to save.

Today Ramesh is the owner of three commercial vehicles that are enabling him to have a good standard of living. The loan he took out has transformed his life, and the lives of his family members. He is now in a position to provide an education for his four children, who are being raised under the wings of Asha. “My family has seen very bad days, but now I feel I am in a position to help others”.
