India’s Finance Minister meets students from Asha communities

On Thursday 7th March, 2014, India’s Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram met with College students from Asha slum communities. Accompanied by Dr Kiran Martin, Founder and Director of Asha, the students were glad to be invited to the Hon’ble Minister’s office and were full of excitement as they shared stories of their journey with Asha.

Akhlaq, college student from Chanderpuri slum colony, who interned at the New Zealand High Commission last year said, “It was an amazing experience to work at the High Commission. I got an opportunity to learn a lot of new things – all because of Asha’s Internship Programme”. Mr Chidambaram congratulated them on their achievements and encouraged them to study hard and strive for greater heights.

Mr Chidambaram has always been a supporter of Asha’s Higher Education Programme since its inception in 2008 and has never missed an opportunity to be a presence in the lives of these students. Asha is grateful for this support that he has always extended to its various programmes and looks forward to many more years of association with the Hon’ble Minister.
