Pain to Peace: Haseena’s Journey with Asha

Haseena, a 65-year-old woman from the Jeevan Nagar slum community, has lived a life marked by hardship and loneliness. She married against her family’s wishes, only to discover that her husband already had another family who never accepted her. Ten years ago, her husband passed away due to excessive drinking, leaving her completely alone. His death pushed her into years of grief, isolation, and despair.

With age, her body began to fail her. Crippling pain in her knees, shoulders, and back made even simple tasks like cooking or cleaning impossible. She often felt weak, helpless, and deeply saddened by her declining health.

Haseena found some relief through Asha’s Love and Lunch programme, where she received a nutritious meal each day along with monthly rations that eased her struggles. But what truly transformed her life was when an Asha team member encouraged her to visit the physiotherapy clinic at Asha Polyclinic. With a faint glimmer of hope, she decided to give it a chance.

At the clinic, her condition was assessed with great care. The physiotherapy team discovered severe stiffness, weakness, and pain in her joints and muscles. They immediately began treatment—hot pack therapy to ease her pain, ultrasound therapy to reduce inflammation, and IFT machine therapy to relax her muscles. Along with these treatments, she was taught simple, regular exercises for her knees, shoulders, and back.

Slowly but surely, change began. Day by day, Haseena’s pain reduced, her strength returned, and her confidence grew. Tasks that once felt impossible became manageable again. She could cook, clean, and live independently without constant suffering.

Today, her face lights up as she says:
“Physiotherapy not only reduced my pain but gave me the courage to live again. I feel stronger, more independent, and full of hope. Asha gave me back my life.”
