Seema’s Story: Empowering Women, Changing Lives

Seema’s Story: Empowering Women, Changing Lives

Seema and her husband moved to Delhi from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, after their marriage. For the past 20 years, they have lived in the Jeewan Nagar slum community with their two children. Initially, Seema had no knowledge of Asha, but she observed how women in her neighborhood gained confidence and independence through Asha’s programs. Though burdened with household responsibilities and work pressures, she never imagined that joining the Mahila Mandal (Women’s Association) could change her life.

Encouraged by Asha’s dedicated team, Seema hesitantly began attending the meetings. Slowly, she became more involved, and the motivational sessions sparked her curiosity about Delhi and the opportunities around her. As a member of the Mahila Mandal, she gained awareness about the importance of education, accessing government support, and standing up for herself and others. She realized that women were not just discussing their struggles—they were actively finding solutions together.

Today, at 35, Seema serves as the treasurer of the Mahila Mandal, a role that has given her newfound confidence and purpose. She has become more financially aware and is committed to securing a better future for her children. By making flower garlands, she not only earns an income but also experiences a sense of self-worth and fulfillment.

Asha and the Mahila Mandal have given Seema a new direction in life, and she now encourages other women to join and transform their own lives. However, countless women in slum communities still need support to break free from societal limitations and build brighter futures.
Your contribution can help empower more women like Seema. With your support, Asha can continue to provide education and leadership programs that change lives.
