What a joy it was for the children at Asha’s Seelmapur centre to have a team of 12 students from Trinity College, Australia volunteer for about 10 days, starting from 16th January.
During their tenure, they taught English to Asha’s University students, conducted training workshops to brush up their interview skills, observed medical practices at the centre, orchestrated learning and empowerment activities, visited the slum communities and lastly, had some fun games organised for the children. The volunteers were in awe of listening to the empowering stories of Women’s Association and Community Health Volunteers.
Talking about her overwhelming experience at Asha, Holly McNaughton said, “My time at Asha has been unforgettable. I have valued the generosity and kindness of the people here and have been thoroughly inspired by the devotion of the team members to bring positive change in the community.” For some of the volunteers, “seeing how the learning of the Asha kids has improved in such a short amount of time is a wonderful thing to see”.
Aptly, Samuel Strong from the Trinity team summed up his feelings, “visiting Asha and communicating with the team at Seelampur has opened my eyes and has perceived me to help in any way I can.”
