Workshop on Communication held at Asha’s Kalkaji slum community

The Macquarie team from Gurugram consisting of Smriti, Sachin, Kartik, and Rupesh conducted a workshop on Communications-Definition, meaning, needs and barriers at the Kalkaji centre for the Asha college students.

19 students from the Asha slums of Kalkaji, Tigri and V.P. Singh camp attended the highly interactive workshop. The sessions were divided into two parts- General Sessions where the following topics were discussed.

  • Meaning of Communication
  • 7Cs of Communication.
  • Barriers in Communication- Encoding, Decoding, Transmission, and Response.
  • Loud, Clear and Polite Communication.
  • E-Mail and other forms of written communication.
  • Effective Communication- Words-7%, Voice-38%, Physiology- 55%.
  • Keeping it Short and Simple.

After a round of question-answers with the audience, where the students discussed the problems they faced in their day to day communication at different levels including job interviews, they were divided into three separate small groups and individual problems faced concerning communication like hesitation, lack of confidence and other such problems were discussed. The students found the sessions very useful and many of their doubts were cleared.

The Macquarie team made the sessions interactive and encouraged everyone to participate. In conclusion, it was felt that a follow-up session on the same topic would be very useful.
