Workshop on Defence Services held for Asha undergraduate students
A workshop on Defence services was held on 22nd February at the Asha headquarters. The workshop was conducted by Lieutenant commander Raja from the Indian Navy which was attended by 15 undergraduate Asha students who wants to pursue Defence as their career.
Lt Cdr Raja initiated the session by speaking about the various entry route in the services. He spoke about the application process along with the age, and recruitment process. He focused on the major entry, Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year to recruit officers for the Army, Navy and Air Force, and followed by a face-to-face with the Services Selection Board (SSB).
Next, he shared the tips and techniques and some important pointers to take note of to face the SSB. SSB interview includes three different techniques to assess the personality traits of the candidate at the conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious levels. These are interview, group testing, and psychological techniques. This was highly informative for the students.
Lt Cdr Raja said, “Getting a grip on math and English is the first step as these are the most important subjects. You should also learn to manage time as speed is the factor where candidates face problems”.
He also shared his personal experience which was very helpful for the students to gain a better perspective. He also asked students to take note of some important books that they can refer to when preparing for the exams. The session concluded by a long Q&A session in which the students addressed their concerns and queries and cleared all their doubts.
‘It has been a wonderful experience engaging with Asha students. The students were very bright and curious, they engaged me with queries that I was more than happy to address. Thank you for inviting me’ said Lt Cdr Raja.
We thank Lt Cdr Raja for taking the time out and imparting his knowledge to Asha students. We are sure that this session has been very beneficial to the future Defence officers of Asha.
