Growing up in utter despondency in the slums, educating the children are probably the last thing that comes into the minds of the slum dwellers. Children grow up in such weary conditions due to lack of financial and other problems that if they are willing to study, they get only a few dull text books. So Asha celebrated the World Book Day (April 23, 2016) with the prime objective to inculcate the habit of reading in slum kids, and provide them with bright colourful book libraries.
Through the successful book collection campaign – Your Books, Our Hope, we were able to collect over 1000 books. Thanks to the ever-enduring generosity of people around the globe who kindly donated novels, English grammar books, story books and so on and helped us create book clubs.
Throughout last month, along with Asha Student Ambassadors, our team inaugurated libraries at various Asha centres in front of the presence of extremely enthusiastic bunch of children who were thrilled to receive such amazing books. The Children’s Association at various centers have started book clubs where the children get together on a mutually decided day and time, and read out the books to each other.
We whole heartedly thank each one of you for contributing towards the noble cause and for making the lives of these children a lot brighter! This wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
