We were glad to have New Zealand High Commissioner-designate HE Joanna Kempkers, Deputy High Commissioner Suzannah Jessep, Trade Commissioner of North and East India Jane Cunliffe and other officials from the New Zealand High Commission (NZHC) to celebrate the International Women’s Day at the Dr Ambedkar slum community.

The team from NZHC initiated a discussion on – Be Bold for Change – the theme of this year’s Women’s Day. During the interaction, Asha’s Women Association, as well as the NZHC team, shared some overwhelming experiences from their lives that helped them come out as bold winners.

The High Commissioner was highly impressed with how the women of the community are leading a respectable life now, despite all the struggles. The officials also orchestrated a painting activity where both they and the Women’s Association painted impressions of their hands at the Asha centre, to commemorate the day.

A big thank you to the High Commissioner and New Zealand High Commission for taking out time to celebrate the day with our women.
