We are very grateful at Asha, for the incredible contributions Ballymena Academy, Northern Ireland has dedicated toward Tigri slum colony.
This was the fifth team from Ballymena Academy to volunteer with Asha. This group of thirteen students, ages sixteen through eighteen, prepared and fundraised for their trip for over a year. During their ten-day stay, the team spent hours with the children in Tigri playing, painting murals and teaching.
The skills the students from Ballymena taught, including English, arts, and job & interview skills, undoubtedly will serve the children well. The confidence the team instilled in the children, will go even further.
Here are a few excerpts from the team’s blog telling you more about their time here:
“The team felt privileged to witness the incredible impact Asha has had on numerable slum dwellers…”
“The country is amazing and filled with so many amazing sights and people. The selflessness and happiness of the children of Tigri has made us all realise how much we take for granted.”
“The sights here in Delhi have truly opened my eyes and shown me that happiness is not from materialism, but through caring for each other and being content with our lives- the children are such an inspiration to us all”
“It was so humbling to hear that [the children are] basing their careers on helping others, such as teaching slum children or becoming doctors”
The team also took part in the East meets West music concert and delivered some extremely beautiful performances showcasing their culture.
We look forward to welcoming more groups of Ballymena students in the years to come.
