It was a day full of excitement and cheer for children from Jeevan Nagar slum colony on Saturday, 6th October with the visit of two Brownies (Girl Guides), Bella and Ellin from the British High Commission accompanied by Ms. Jill Sinclair, Chair, British High Commission Charity Committee. They brought with them boxes full toys and books and presented them to children at Jeevan Nagar slum colony. The kids were overjoyed to receive such beautiful gifts; they don’t get to see or use such items in their day to day life.
The visitors also had a very interactive discussion session with members of Asha’s children’s groups at the slum and learnt a lot about their lives and the hardships they face. They also went for a short tour of the slum and visited an Asha college student in her home in order to see the conditions in which people live.
Over the past few weeks, the little girls along with their friends had been collecting used books, toys, games and stationery from their locality for the children in Asha slums. These gifts will be placed at Asha’s resource centers over different slums where children can use them so that maximum kids would benefit out of their use.
Asha would like to thank the Brownies, Bella and Ellin along with each and every person associated with this donation drive for their generosity and efforts. We are extremely grateful for the gifts and they will be of much use kids in the slums.
If you wish to organise a similar drive in your area, please contact us at info@asha-india.org.
