Harish Rao visits Asha slum with his team

Harish Rao visits Asha slum with his team

On Saturday, 6th October a group of 11 people led by Mr. Harish Rao, Head – Asia Pacific, Sundaram Business Services visited Asha. Mr. Rao takes a keen interest in Asha’s work and thus invited the group to visit one of the Asha slums while they were in the country. They visited, Dr Ambedkar Basti slum colony, the first slum Asha started working in 25 years back.

While walking through the narrow alleys they were amazed at the levels of cleanliness they saw in the slum which they later learnt was an outcome of Asha’s work over the years. In a highly interactive session that lasted for nearly two hours, they spoke with the members of children’s and women’s groups from the slum to learnt a lot about their day to day life and the their involvement with Asha. To get a better insight into the life of a slum dweller, the group also visited the home of Mahesh, an engineering student form the slum. The group also interacted with some of the college students from Asha slums who told them about how their lives have changed after they started attending college.

It was a wonderful visit which Asha hopes is only the start of a beautiful relationship with not only the team leader but also with each and every member of the team. We would like to thank them for taking out this time from their itinerary to visit Asha and hope to welcome again.

If you wish to visit Asha for a Day or Volunteer with us for a longer time, please write to us at info@asha-india.org .
