As part of Dr. Kiran Martin’s recent Australia visit in 2026, Asha had the opportunity to thank Liz Peak for her years of friendship, support, and commitment to the organisation’s mission.
Currently serving in a senior role at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Liz has been a long-standing friend and supporter of Asha. Her association with Asha began in 2012 at the Australian High Commission in India, where she volunteered closely with our communities for three years.
She later went on to establish Asha’s Internship and Mentorship Programmes, creating opportunities for young people from slum communities to step confidently into professional spaces and broaden their horizons.
More recently, Liz organised a series of important meetings in Canberra for Dr. Kiran Martin, including engagements with senior officials and a roundtable discussion at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where the Asha Model was presented. She also brought together long-standing friends and supporters of Asha at her home.
These efforts have helped strengthen Asha’s relationships across Australia and deepen support for the work being carried out in Delhi’s slum communities. It was especially meaningful to have Tushar share his journey, reflecting the power of opportunity and the impact of sustained support.
Liz’s continued commitment to Asha, including her role with Friends of Asha Australia, continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and communities.
Thank you, Liz, for walking alongside us.
