We at Asha were pleased to host a seven-member team from the Australian High Commission including Rechelle Carroll, Ronae Duthie, Jacqueline Duthie, Ellen Sanders, Zeina Sallalch, Bassam Walid Azar and our good friend Kimberly O’Brien, who has been associated with Asha’s Mentorship Programme for almost a year now.
After a quick tour at the Asha Headquarters, the team visited Mayapuri slum colony, accompanied by the Asha team, where they met enthusiastic children and women who welcomed them with great humility. Some of the children shared their stories as well as their association with Asha, while others passionately shared their dreams of becoming teacher, doctor, police or pilot, which brought immense smile and joy in the room.
The team then interacted with the Community Health Volunteers and Women’s Association where the women eagerly showed health charts and talked about their work as change makers.
Amidst the hot weather, the team then walked through the slum next to the railway track and were much impressed by how Asha has been able to transform the community as a whole. Later they met Dr Kiran to discuss the work of Asha and how the life at slums is being transformed year after year.
