Team from California visits Tigri slum colony

Team from California visits Tigri slum colony

The community and staff at Asha’s Community centre in Tigri slum colony were delighted to once again welcome the team comprising friends of Asha from Davis, California on their third visit to the community during the month of January. This year, they also included a few members from Sacramento, California.

The team of 6 members led by Alex Achimore spent a week at Asha’s community centre in Tigri slum colony organising various workshops and classes for school going children. It was a time of endless joy, laughter and learning as the team held art and craft sessions, action songs, English conversation classes and moral education workshops with the children who were only too eager to learn.

Amongst all other activities, they also met with some of the college students with whom they engaged in discussions on subjects like higher education courses and their career prospects. In step with the importance that Asha gives to its core values, the team took great interest when Asha team in Tigri began their day’s work with a reflection on these and got also involved in the sessions.

With hopes and promises of meeting next year, the community at Tigri bid a warm farewell to the team with whom they have now formed a strong friendship. Asha hopes that this relationship will only grow stronger and we would have the joy and privilege of welcoming them again and again in the years to come.
