Team from Onslow College, New Zealand visits Mayapuri slum colony

It was a great pleasure for Asha to welcome a team of 22 members from Onslow College, New Zealand on Saturday the 13th of October, 2012. The team was led by Dennis Fountain, an old friend of Asha. After a brief orientation the team was taken to the Asha centre in Mayapuri slum colony for interaction with the slum dwellers.

At the centre the team interacted with members of Asha’s children’s and women’s group in the slum. The children also sang beautiful songs for the visiting team. After the interaction the team was taken for the slum visit so that they could meet with the community in their homes and experience firsthand, the harsh realities of slum life. The visit left some members of the team so motivated that they even expressed their eagerness to volunteer for Asha for a longer period. The Onslow team had also raised some funds ahead of their visit to Asha which were presented after the visit.

Asha is immensely thankful to all the members of the team for the generosity with which they raised funds for us and for taking out the time to visit the community. We look forward to hosting more such visits and welcoming the Onslow School again.
