Team from Rainey Endowed School brightens up the Asha centre

Asha is so proud of the team of 12 students and 3 teachers from Rainey Endowed School in Ireland refurbished Asha’s centre in Kusumpur slum colony in little over a week. They visited the Asha head quarters on 25th October to meet with the Asha team over lunch and observe the activities at the Asha Polyclinic there. They also presented a donation they had raised a part of planning their trip. As soon as they reached the slum centre, the volunteers started off with their main task of painting the resource centre in a Disney theme. The team has done a great job with from Looney Toons, the little mermaid and other cartoon series that now adorn the walls at Kusumpur.

Despite being very busy at their task of painting the centre, they also found time to meet with the college students and to visit the slum as well. They also conducted English conversation workshops with college and high school students. The students from Rainey enjoyed the little time they got to spend with these people of their own age and were greatly moved at seeing the problems they face on a daily basis.

While in Delhi, the team also had the honour of being invited by the Irish High Commissioner over dinner on 1st Nov. 2012. The dinner was hosted by H. E. Feilim McLaughlin, Irish High Commissioner to acknowledge and encourage the efforts of the team and the Rainey Endowed School as they continue to take forward the relationship between the two countries.

Before teary goodbyes the team celebrated their efforts at the inauguration of the newly painted centre amongst much cheer and joy on the last day of their trip. The Asha team and community thanked the team abundantly for their efforts and invited them to come over soon. The team enjoyed a great afternoon full of song and dance with the community marking a happy end of a wonderful visit.

Asha is truly thankful to Rainey Endowed School for visiting us every two years and can only wish for their trips to be more frequent. Asha hopes to continue to be in touch with the school and welcome them time and again over the years to come.
